Warning 276/365: Old Sign

without comments

I saw this old sign while I was out for a run this afternoon. I can vaguely make out the word warning near the top of the sign. The rest of the message has faded away. I shot this as a storm was heading in using my flash to bring out the sign.

I converted to Black and White thinking that it adds a bit of drama to the shot, but will also post the color version in a comment below.

217/365: Body Macro: Eyes

without comments

Strobist: Single flash bounced around on various reflectors surrounding the face.

I had to crop only for the eyes as this is not a good representation of this subject, I intended it to look mean and frightening, but the subject is really the opposite of that.

I was trying to recreate the look and feel of kelco’s exteriors set as I think they are amazing.

199/365: All Dressed Up

without comments

This shot was the last of a photoshoot. It was my favorite photo, we were done, but the lights were still up and as he was crawling towards me, I got it.

As far as dressed up is concerned, they bought his outfit today prior to the shoot. I’m counting it!

Strobist: flash pointed at a reflector camera left, the setting sun is camera right diffused by a bunch of clouds.

Strobist: Single flash above and camera right held by my lovely wife, snooted with a rolled-up newspaper. See, print journalism isn’t dead! Fired with CyberSync’s. Flash 1/32 power, the rest is in the EXIF.

174/365: Late

without comments

I had a tough time coming up with a good shot for this subject.  In the end I decided to pull out the flash and see what I could do.  I sure saw it looking a lot better in my head!  Oh well, that’s how we learn I suppose.

100% Silk 138/365: Silk

without comments

I really don’t have a lot of silk at my house and as a result, I spent half the day trying to figure out what to shoot. Then it came to me, I have quite a few ties that are silk. This particular tie was given to me by my daughter. She picked it out and everything. It is my favorite tie.

Sunset

with 2 comments

My wife will probably not be too happy I posted this photo. The purpose wasn’t to do a portrait shoot, but to play around with my lights and the wonderful sunset. It was for practice.

So here she is after a long day of controlling the three little kids and the one adult who too often acts like a kid.

To shot this, I first exposed for the sky and then brought in my flash to the appropriate level. It was a fun exercise.

Fake Photosynthesis 125/365: Leaf

without comments

The sky was unbelievably dull today creating a very flat light which wasn’t what I was hoping it would be for this shot. Fortunately, I had a backup plan. I pulled out my flash and gelled it with a CTO gell to make it feel like the sun was on the budding leaf.

Strobist: 1 CTO gelled flash camera right at 1/4 power. Triggered remotely with CyberSync triggers. My wife was acting as my VAL.
