Melts My Heart 161/365: Smile
Headshot of my daughter. It was hard to get this shot in the noon day sun, but we moved to the shade and used a silver reflector to fill in the shadows on her face. I picked this tree as a background because it creates nice bokeh dots.
It is Wednesday right?
Dizzy 159/365: Spin
My son was spinning as well, but my favorite shot we took was of him no longer being able to spin. Of course, to him, the world was still spinning when this shot was taken.
Camping Girl
This is a shot of Brinci just outside of our campground while we were at Zion National Park.
I didn’t use any powered lighting for this portrait, the sun was in the back and I had a silver reflector in the front camera left.
My Hinges 108/365: Hinge
I’m all made of hinges,
’cause everything bends
From the top of my neck
way down to my ends
I’m hinges in front,
and I’m hinges in back;
But I have to be hinges,
or else I would crack!
This photo was Brinci’s idea which made it special. She is the one who realized that we too have hinges.
It is amazing to see all of the things farmers do with twine string around here. Here is a case of it being the hinge. On the other side of the gate, it was also the lock.
Coloring Eggs
We had a wonderful time coloring eggs today. I captured the entire event using a remote fired flash sitting in a high-tech shoe light stand taught by the strobist.
Strobist: Single flash 1/2 power sitting in a shoe pointing at the wall for bounce. The flash was triggered by a Cybersync trigger.

Zion Sunset
This shot was taken the first day we were at Zion National Park. This was taken at the Canyon Overlook. It is an absolutely breathtaking view of the canyon. We arrived shortly before sunset and were treated to absolutely stunning skies.
I took this with two cokin filters and I feel it brought out the feeling and mood of the vista.
War 94/365: Underexposed
89/365: Children
This is my first published shot with off camera flashes. I had many others strobist shots that turned out better, but none of my children being children.
My children love to read. We are constantly walking past their rooms at night and finding them with a flashlight or some other lighting device reading. It is great.
Strobist Info: 1 Gelled flash at 1/32 power held by my son. Triggered by CyberSync triggers.
Brinci
My beautiful daughter Brinci allowed me to take a portrait of her this morning. I was interested in trying out some directional natural lighting provided by a window in our house that doesn’t have direct sunlight coming in.
I think it turned out quite well.
Brinci is my oldest child and only daughter. Daughters, especially only daughters seem to have a special place in a Father’s heart, it doesn’t mean I love my sons any less, its just a different sort of feeling. I admit, I spoil her as anyone who knows me can attest.

74/365: Shooting Up
Yes, it is 3:30pm on a Sunday and we are all in our pajamas. Today’s challenge was to shoot up. The sky looked nice, but I wanted to put a little something extra in the foreground so I had Brinci and Toby hop in the picture. I took a few of both of them together, but Toby has such sensitive eyes that he spent the entire time squinting. For that reason, I selected a photo without him in it today.
