12/365 – Minimalism
Today’s challenge was minimalism. I was pretty excited about that and had a few ideas all of which required sunlight. Well, that just didn’t happen. The day was spent pretty quickly with some doctors appointments for my son (he’s fine, nothing to worry about) that ran much longer than anticipated. I did however, come up with an entry although it wasn’t my first subject choice.
11/365 Landscape and Some Lessons Learned
Today’s challenge is to shoot landscapes. Weather wise it has been an odd day, it is the middle of winter here and it rained. I can’t remember many times this has happened. It did however, provide very dark clouds which was an interesting contrast to the white snow. This is the photo I chose for my entry:
I initially went out with the goal in mind to shoot some landscape in color using my cokin filters. I had limited time, so I hustled out with Brinci and started shooting. After each shot I glanced at the result but didn’t pay much attention to them. When I got back I noticed that I had my Tobacco filter set too strong for these images. As a result, they looked a bit off color wise. My only option was to convert to black and white. Lesson, keep any eye on the colors and realize that they are more saturated then the viewfinder portrays. Here are the other shots:
Spy Games
Digital Photography School gives out weekly assignments. This week’s assignment is “Dreams”.
The majority of my dreams are definitely dreams of grandeur, I think quite highly of myself. I often dream I’m a spy or a super hero. Not sure what that says about me, but there it is.
10/365 – Motion
Today’s subject was “Motion”. After doing this for Brinci once, guess what we spent the next 30 minutes doing for her again and for the other kids as well? We really needed Dave to come over and help out!

Experiments in Spot Metering
I made this photo as John (one of our maintenance employees) was entering our garage at work. I saw him coming did a quick spot meter out one of the windows and turned and snapped just in time to get him walking through the door. I was surprised that I was able to get it all done in the time needed. I literally saw him coming 5 or so steps from the door as he passed the window.
If I had the time or it was a setup shot, I would have framed the shot a bit better and included the light that spilled onto the garage floor, but it was truly candid and I’ll take what I got.
8/365 Entropy
This has been a very fun challenge for me. I’ve enjoyed looking for these subjects. I’ve created a photoset on my flickr account and I plan on shooting more of these photos.

6/365 Bread
I eat so much jam on my bread that my wife thinks bread is nothing but an edible spoon used to transfer copious amounts of jam into my mouth. It’s a spoon I don’t have to wash!
