Storm on the mountains
Min and I live in a very beautiful area near the Uinta mountains. Currently, in Kamas, the fall colors are out in full glory. To add to the beauty we have had some very nice thunderstorms over the past few days. Yesterday in a slight break in the storms, some light splashed upon the mountain East of our house. The mountain with it’s colored leaves lit up in an amazing way. I stepped out the front door, leaned against the side of the house to steady my shot and made this photograph.

Passing Mountains
This past Saturday, my wife, kids, and I climbed to the top of Bald Mountain near Mirror Lake in the Uintas East of Kamas, UT. Bald Mountain is just under 12,000 feet in elevation. When we began at the trail head, there were a number of other peaks higher than us. As we climbed up, we slowly passed each one until we were at the top.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
Eventually, I’m going to be in the market for a compact camera. The one I have (Canon PowerShot S410) is getting rather old but plays a significant roll in my photo taking. I use my S410 on backpacking trips where weight and size is very critical. Lately, as I’ve learned more about photography, pointing and shooting isn’t getting me the results I desire. I have found times when I’ve wanted a camera that I could have a little more control over. One of the compact cameras that has caught my interest is Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-LX3 which until recently was available for pre-order only.
The Lumix DMC-LX3 is a small camera that fits the bill I need for a backpacking camera, it is a small, lightweight, offers complete control over things such as focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, format, and it has a very wide angle for a compact camera (24mm equivalent).
A video review of this camera is available here. This camera is available for purchase on Amazon and other places.
I’m very interested to see reviews and photos from regular people once this camera is out to the general public for a little while.
My daughter’s sunset
Both of my oldest two children love sunsets. They even pray for beautiful ones. It is quite touching to see them appreciate something Min and I enjoy as well.
Two days ago Brinci was looking out of her bedroom window after going to bed and saw a gorgeous sunset. She had me go out and shoot it.

Lacrosse
I’ve been going through a few photos that I’ve taken in the last year as I’m backing up my photo library. I’ve posted this photo in a few places before and when I came across it I decided to include it here.
This is a photo I took while attending a lacrosse game my friend was playing in. I was using a borrowed camera (gear link). It was a wonderful evening, the sun was heavy in the West and the colors were starting to become attractive.

First Photograph
I’ve contemplated what would be the first photograph I publish on our sight for sometime now. I’ve posted photographs on my family website on many occasions with very little apprehension. I believe I feel a bit nervous here because this is the first time I’m really announcing that I’m actually trying to make photographs instead of just taking snap shots.
This photograph was made during a recent family reunion in Star Valley WY. We were up at a favorite get away for our family, Cottonwood Lake East of Smoot WY. While there, I saw my daughter and my father by one another and asked them to pose. I wish I had a better camera, more specifically, a better lens. I took this rather close with a wide angle lens which of course exaggerated facial features in a very unflattering manner. I did however, enjoy the subject and the contrast as I converted this to black and white.
